moment of silence

1912 - 2006

"You know, the camera is not meant just to show misery. You can show beauty with it; you can do a lot of things. You can show--with a camera you can show things that you like about the universe, things that you hate about the universe. It's capable of doing both. And I think that after nearly 85 years upon this planet that I have a right after working so hard at showing the desolation and the poverty, to show something beautiful for somebody as well. It's all there, and you've only done half the job if you don't do that. You've not really completed a task. - Gordon Parks

American Gothic - 1946

20 Nurses - 1963

Chain Gang - 1956

Wow! How prescient a photograph is it of a young Ali (14 year old Cassius Marcelus Clay in 1956) only two years into his amazing career. One major characteristic of a great photographer is knowing WHAT to shoot and when.

Alright, alright typo alert. Corey we got to do something about this. You can't be having me thinking that Mr. Parks was that psychic as to be up on something 10 years before everybody else. That Ali blickie was done in 66 as he was training for the heavyweight crown. It's still a nice picture though and still ahead of the curve from everyone else just not THAT much ;-)
